Why choose Three?

Same-day plug-and-play setup

There is no waiting for an engineer or a line activation date. You simply plug the hub into a standard power socket and get online the same day it arrives.

Free Eero mesh unit

Customers ordering the Outdoor Hub get an Amazon Eero mesh router included at no extra cost. This is a helpful addition since most providers charge a monthly premium for mesh technology.

High Trustpilot rating

Three holds a score of 4.5 out of 5 from over 54,000 reviews. This is a strong signal of customer satisfaction at a very high volume.

Outdoor Hub option

If your indoor 5G signal is patchy, you can choose a hub designed to mount outside. This captures a stronger mobile network signal before sending it to the indoor mesh unit.

Three operates its own 4G and 5G mobile network to deliver home broadband. Instead of relying on traditional fixed-line infrastructure like Openreach or alternative fibre networks, their hubs connect entirely over the air. In June 2025, their parent company merged with Vodafone to form VodafoneThree. While there are longer-term plans to consolidate home broadband under the Vodafone brand, they continue to operate and sell packages separately for now.

The main draw here is convenience. Because the hub simply plugs into a standard power socket, you get same-day setup without waiting for an engineer to visit your property. You also do not need a landline to get connected, which saves money and hassle. For customers who opt for the Outdoor Hub, Three bundles a free Eero mesh unit. This helps push the wireless signal further through your home to eliminate dead spots.

This service acts as a mobile-network alternative for households where fibre is unavailable or impractical to install. It appeals strongly to renters who cannot drill holes for fixed lines. Performance depends entirely on your local 5G or 4G signal rather than national coverage claims. It is not designed as a fibre replacement for heavy power users, and speeds are capped at 150Mbps rather than matching gigabit fixed-line connections.

Three package types

Three 4G Hub (24m)

This package sits below the standard 50Mbps tier. It suits one person doing light browsing, checking social media, and taking the occasional video call. It lacks the headroom for reliable HD streaming or a busy work-from-home household, making it a budget fallback only where 5G coverage fails to reach.

Three 5G Hub (24m)

This option delivers around 150Mbps, putting it in the 101-500Mbps bracket on the chart. It suits two to three people who want to stream HD video, take video calls, and browse on multiple devices simultaneously. It suits three or more people who want to stream HD video, game online, and work from home. Real-world speeds depend heavily on your local 5G signal strength, so treat the headline speed as a cap rather than a guarantee.

Three 5G Outdoor Hub (24m)

This targets the same speed tier but mounts the receiver outside to capture a stronger mobile signal. It bundles a free Eero mesh unit to spread the Wi-Fi indoors, making it the practical choice for homes where indoor 5G coverage drops out.

Three sits firmly at the budget end of the UK broadband market. For example, the Three 5G Hub (24m) package currently starts at £14.00 a month for average speeds of 150Mbps. All their options run on a strict 24-month minimum term, with no shorter rolling contracts available. Setup is free because you install the hub yourself, and they offer free next-day delivery if you order before 8pm between Monday and Thursday.

The starting price is not what you will pay for the full term. Three applies fixed mid-contract price rises to these deals. Your monthly bill will increase by £3.50 in April 2027, and by another £3.50 in April 2028. This is worth factoring into the total cost of the contract, since both rises are baked in upfront.

To offset some of that long-term cost, they frequently bundle incentives. The current lineup includes up to £200 in switching credit across their deals, which helps cover the cost of leaving your old provider early.

Three pros and cons

Pros

  • No engineer visit and no landline needed, just plug in the hub and you are online the same day
  • Trustpilot rating of 4.5 is well above average, which is strong for a mobile network offering home broadband
  • Unlimited data with no restrictions on any plan, so there are no hidden usage caps to worry about
  • The outdoor hub option comes with a free mesh unit, which can help if your indoor signal is patchy
  • One of the cheapest starting prices in UK broadband, making it a solid option if you want to keep costs low

Cons

  • Speeds depend entirely on 5G or 4G coverage at your address, so performance can vary a lot more than fixed line broadband
  • Top speeds cap at around 150Mbps on 5G, which is well below what most full fibre providers can offer
  • The price does go up during the contract, so the starting rate is not what you will be paying by the end

How Three compares

Three vs EE. Three delivers internet over a 5G mobile connection with speeds capped at 150Mbps, whereas EE uses traditional fixed-line Openreach infrastructure capable of much faster gigabit speeds. Three is significantly cheaper at entry level, but EE includes an engineer installation and is part of Ofcom’s Automatic Compensation Scheme.

Three vs Vodafone. Although both brands are now part of the VodafoneThree group, Vodafone operates fixed-line connections over CityFibre and Openreach networks with top speeds far exceeding the 150Mbps cap from Three. Three costs less per month initially, but Vodafone offers the extra reliability of the Ofcom compensation scheme.

Three vs Quickline. Quickline guarantees no mid-contract price rises across its packages, while Three applies steep pounds-and-pence increases in April 2027 and April 2028. Both ask for a 24-month commitment, but Quickline offers faster top speeds and provides Yorkshire-based customer support.
